Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon will portray two brothers in The Long Red Road, a stage to screen adaptation of a play that has been directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) will play Sam, a young alcoholic who retreats to drown his sorrows in an Indian reservation located in South Dakota. With the sudden arrival of his daughter, he has to choose between the perils of the bottle and the Red Road, a native American term concept referring to the right path in one's life that is also a difficult one.
Hardy had already taken on Sam's role at Chicago's Goodman Theatre, in a production staged by Hoffman. The film, based on a play by Brett C. Leonard, will also cast Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) as Sam's older brother.
